HISTORY * In March 2007 the Town Council consulted with the public in putting together a plan for the 3 years to 2010. * Details of this plan can be seen here. * All but a few activities from this plan have been completed. * A new plan is now to be put in place for the next 3 years.
THE TOWN CENTRE PLAN * In November 2008 the Council approved the Town Centre Plan after extensive public consultation. * The main themes of this plan are: More jobs not more homes in Town Centre. Change supported with extension to shopping. Improved car parking provision. One way system Broad Street to. be reviewed and altered. Market to be reinstated onto the main street. A shopping kiosk village in the Town Hall. A central bus station Hotel and commercial uses on the sheep pens Loading restrictions in Church/Berriew Street Improvements at the TIC and Spar areas * Full details of this plan - which remains the Council policy - can be seen here.

WELSHPOOL - GOING AHEAD WITH PRIDE * The new plan was the subject of consultation from 1st July to 7th October. Following that the final draft has been prepared. * Those items which are left over from the last plan are included in the new plan.

THE PLAN OBJECTIVES (updated 22.11.2011)
1. Provision of Allotments in Welshpool Provided by R Wilde on the Golfa Bank, now over 30 taken up. 2. Continue to seek to implement the Town Plan The Council is still pursuing this item. 3. Securing of the playground at Dol Y Felin Playground is now in ownership of Town Council. 4. Provision of Councilor Surgeries These now happen every 3rd Tuesday 5pm to 7pm at the Offices. 5. A cleaner Welshpool project including anti social behaviour Street champions are being appointed to help with local areas. The CCTV System will also come into play and research has been completed on what the Council can do. Six Councillors are now trained to be able to monitor the CCV. A working group is now putting forward proposals. 6. Protection of services – ie public toilets The Council will continue with discussions to take over the toilets in due course. 7. Support renewable energy as a principle Support for renewable energy within homes is supported through planning applications submitted. 8. More litter and doggy bins in key areas The first of the new dog bins has placed at Windmill Lane. A request for another near the Flash is being made. 9. Plan to deal with antisocial behaviour Street champions are being appointed to help with local areas. The CCTV System will also come into play and research has been completed on what the Council can do. Six Councillors are now trained to be able to monitor the CCV. A working group is now putting forward proposals. 10. Seek to find a better solution for the wind farm transport Petitions, surveys and objections are continuing. 11. Seek to get a reduction in the number of wind farms in Mid Wales to reduce the need for pylons and hubs Petitions, surveys and objections are continuing. 12. Refurbish existing playgrounds to a good standard Maes Y Dre new playground The new playground is now completed New swing at Dol Y Felin The new swings are in place 13. Provision of a Family Park in Welshpool Agreement in principle has been reached to provide a country park and playground near the Flash. 14. Provision of information of what is available in Welshpool The Town Guide has been produced and revised notice boards are ordered to replace the older ones. New VDU screens are ordered and will be placed around town to give information on the Town Centre. 15. Provision of safer cycle routes A plan has been prepared by Powys County Council. Leaflets on the safer routes are promised by PCC and it is hoped something will move forward soon. 16. Welshpool Promote the basement of the Town Hall for leisure/youth The planning application is prepared ready to take this project to the next stage. 17. Continue to support the provision of an hourly train service The Council continues to lobby for this through SARPA and through the Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth Rail Committee. 18. Memorial Gardens improvements The old plants have been removed and instructions given to replant. A new litter bin has been orderd. 19. Improved large scale maps for the Town Centre These have been ordered and will in place in the next few weeks. 20. Support a McDonalds in the Town Centre The Council has made McDonalds aware of the support from the young people. It is now up to McDonalds if they wish to come. 21. Support an alcohol ban for the Town Centre The rules to be met have been gained and the Council will now lobby for a suitable order. 22. Support and aid 1 hour free car parking The three hours free car parking has arrived with Tesco for 650 spaces. Any further development will also carry such free car parking. The Council will still push for free car parking elsewhere in the Town. 23. Charity Shop issue This matter is ongoing. 24. Enter into a charter with Powys County Council Legislation is in place, the Council is ready to sign up, the Council is waiting for Powys County Council to complete this item. 25. Provide a new play area in the Gungrog Ward Agreement in principle has been reached to provide a country park and playground near the Flash. 26a. Seek to provide a sculptures in the Town Centre by the TIC Estimates have been gained and passed to PCC to seek grant aid for 50%. Once this has been gained then the programme can proceed to Council approval. 26b. Seek to provide a scupture park within the Town. This project is a future one. Outer Park has now been leased direct to the Town Council. 27. WLLR steam railway trail along the old route through Town Discussions with PCC have just started. 28. Extend festivals to High Street as well as Broad Street The Christmas lights should now extend to Chelsea Lane. The Winter Festival will also take place in the High Street. 29. Provide CCTV signs near the Spar. This item is ongoing, the CCTV system is being reviewed first. 30. Seek to provide a solution to the problems of the Magistrates Court Letters have passed between the Courts and the Council. The Courts are trying to get better control via their own staff.
